Eligibility

In place of a traditional essay, applicants must complete ONE of the following submission formats to demonstrate their academic goals, leadership, service, and alignment with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated’s ® mission of service to all mankind:

Option A: Video Reflection (5–7 minutes)
Applicants will record a video addressing their educational and career goals, leadership and service experiences, personal development, and plans for future community impact while answering the following questions:

1. Describe your educational and career goals.

2. Discuss a leadership or service experience that has shaped who you are today.

3. Explain how service and sisterhood have influenced your personal development.

4. Describe how you plan to give back to your community in the future.

Option B: Digital Portfolio or Presentation
Applicants will submit a digital presentation (e.g., PowerPoint, Canva, Google Slides, or website) highlighting their academic aspirations, leadership experiences, community service involvement, personal values, and future goals. Submissions should be approximately 8–12 slides.

All submissions must be original work and clearly reflect the applicant’s commitment to scholarship, leadership, and service.

Application Requirements/Information

• Special consideration is given to students from disadvantaged backgrounds with a strong academic performance. Award amounts may vary.
• Applicants must be graduating seniors residing in Genesee County who will be pursuing a bachelor's or associate degree.
• Complete and sign the application form (see below).
• Initial the “Release of Confidential Information” section (parent/guardian must initial for minors).
• Transcript (must include the school seal)
• Two (2) letters of recommendation addressing character, scholastic and/or leadership abilities from the following sources:
• School personnel (e.g., teacher, counselor, coach, or principal)
• Community member (e.g., church member, employer, mentor, scouts, auxiliaries)
